Major's Speech from Animal Farm

Today I am writing about the article, "Major's Speech from Animal Farm" by George Orwell.

I really liked this article. I thought is was funny and it got me thinking about the torture that humans really do put animals through. I was thinking about the other side; the animal's side. I found it surprising that Major is a pig. You do not think of pigs as courageous animals with something to say, at least I don't. I thought major was going to be head honcho of the farm. But he is just a pig who lays around in mud and oinks to get attention! I thought he was gong to be a wise dog or the head cow.

I really liked this article because although it may not come of as a serious article it really is. Animal cruelty is a very huge subject here in the United States, even internationally. This article talks about the production animals give with nothing in return. I believe in some cases this is true, but its not humans fault that they are farther down the food chain than us. :) But seriously, this article i feel related to all audiences. Audiences such as PETA and animal cruelty protesters. Also audiences like me, just an everyday meat loving girl.

One thing i did not like about this article was that it said "remove man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever." I did not like this quote because to this pig, man gave him shelter, food, and let him live to his full life potential. I think he should feel lucky to serve man and help them with their lives because we depend on animals like major - but then again maybe that opinion is why major is so upset with man.

Major should be proud of his Pig Family! Babe, the pig, is a major movie star!!

Wow i read your blog and it is pretty much the same thing as mine. We both talked about how we liked it and that we see things about animal cruelty. We both even mentioned that a pig is a weird animal to be a leader. You also have a picture of Babe and I mentioned that the pig reminds me of Babe.

I agree with this blog when she talks about animal cruelty, and I like how you threw Babe in there. The reading talks about how the animals get mistreated and how man is to blame for what is wrong with the world and you seemed to cover that well in your blog. Way to go....
