Group Projects

Our group, Nsync, is working really well throughout this project. Our power point is ready to go with signature pieces that we are all willing to talk about. Everyone put in an effort with the group and individually, like researching our topic.
Our topic is the colon (:) I use it mostly for the eyes on a smiley face during text messages and thats about it. I am not a fan of punctuation. Of course I know how to use general punctuation marks but others that are somewhat difficult to understand get thrown out the window. I hopefully will someday be comfortable with my writing and be able to use an assortment of marks, but not today.
One thing that is really great about our group is that we all make sure everyone understands. therefor this is enabling me to understand and interpret the colon not only through my brain but others too. The phrase is, "two heads are better than one".
Another thing about our group is that we all know what we have to do and we get it done. We have met outside of class which is really awesome. We all planned a time and location and worked on the power point. We went over our tasks individually and made sure everyone was comfortable about their topic relating to the colon, and ready.
I had fun this group project. I demonstrated the skills of teamwork and responsibility.

Links to some other cool videos

This is a fun video about future technology from Japan. Some of the stuff people come up with... you think they would spend time thinking about world peace!

This video is about the technology in 2007. It is pretty crazy what we did in 2007! Can you imagine 2008?

9/10

I found the youtube video awesome. It surprised me with all the facts and at times it was a little much. I found myself pausing the video to reread each fact. I was shocked at some things that I had read. For example the fact about Myspace. It had said that if Myspace was a country it would be the 8th largest in world! That made me wide - eyed.
I also found myself disturbed by some of the facts. I was very uneasy about the various facts that had targeted the U.S.A. For instance the video contained a fact that said China would be the best English speaking country in, I believe, 4 years. I found it disturbing that India and China have more college graduates than the USA. Most people believe, myself included, that the U.S.A was the best country in the world. I knew we were behind in technology and energy efficiency ideas, but in education! This shocked me, but it was convincing. I do agree with it, although I would love to just turn my head and pretend I never heard this.
This video makes me want to go out and do something for the world. It makes me want to help out. It is very motivating. I liked how it had sources at the end to prove the factual comments it had discussed. I also like how this video is made or presented. It had nice music in the background that wasn't distracting and went with the theme of the video. It was also not very colorful which worked for the theme because it stood out for the right reasons and not because the words were lime green with a hot pink background, that just wouldn't of fit. Some words were a subtle red which made them stand out more. These words were mostly the dates while the changed to make an impact, to have you watch and have it soak into your brain.
I really enjoyed the video and I will recommend it to others.

Malcom X
Literacy Behind Bars

I loved reading this article. I, not only loved reading this due to the fact that I am well attracted to slavery and the subject of Malcolm X, but because it gave me an insight that I am connected to him. I am connected to him through english! I had read the dictionary once too, of course I did not read all of it and I have never been to prison, but still, Malcolm X and I have a connection. This was a surprise to me. I, Caucasian girl living in 2008, can relate to a black nationalist through the ideas of literacy! Malcolm X was so determined with his writing. Copying everything from the dictionary on a notepad! That is crazy determination, but maybe it was because he had nothing else to do.
I find his Literacy Behind Bars a well developed narrative. His ideas were right to the point and he gave insight on how it had changed his life. For example, in the last paragraph he talked about how going to prison and studying benefited him more than going to college. I totally agree with him on that. Although for me, I rather study English and say "No, Thank you" to the offer of studying in prison. I do agree that now a days college does have a lot of unnecessary distractions, though.

I have linked pictures of Malcolm X. I never really knew what he looked like. I personally thought he was a lot scarier looking.
